“Charmed,” the TV show, full of Charmed Spells, a magickal storyline, and an incredible cast, enjoyed a stellar run on television screens worldwide for just under 8 years from 1998 until 2006.
“Charmed” chronicled the magical story of four sisters Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige Halliwell, although Paige entered the story only after Prue was “killed off” in the season 3 finale.
Although the rest of their fictional community was unaware, these four sisters were actually the most recent line of the most powerful witches in history. Known, however, in the supernatural community as “The Charmed Ones”, their purpose and destiny were to protect the innocent from evil.
It’s hard being a witch!
The struggle of these 4 sisters trying to live an everyday life while saving the world with their unique and individual powers make up the show's basis. Each sister had their own specific powers and abilities, which grew and evolved over time, resulting in supremely powerful witches. Although each sister had unique expertise, their power was demonstrated and recognized when they all worked together – hence the catch-cry of “The Power of 3.”
Their central magickal resource, which played a large part in the show, was their family Book of Shadows – a magickal journal referencing and containing all their charmed spells, rituals, and other similarly themed materials.
The wonderful blend of characters, unique and creative writing, and storylines made this show work, and spin-offs of merchandise, other shows, and cult fan followings are a testament to this screen magic! Oh, and of course, the fact that there were 3 and then four gorgeous, strong-willed, take no shit witches also helped!
Two main focuses of interest even well after the show have been “How do I get a replica of the book of Shadows?”

To answer question 2, most magic spells of substance are more than just a few lines, which, of course, primarily due to television constraints, the charmed spells are not.
